Day 2

This is the bashful group shouting HI from Louisiana!! This morning we were awoken by nature’s alarm clock: rain… 5:30 am, it was quite the wake up call...

Our first stop of the day: WALMART!! As we pulled into Walmart, the cooks bought our great value brand pop-tarts for breakfast, brown sugar and strawberry flavored!! Then we headed to Auburn University where we heard a presentation from Tyler Sellers on the university itself.

Tyler Sellers telling us all some awesome info about Auburn!

After an introduction to a past participant who attends the school, and a picture with a nice stranger at the Auburn sign, we quickly loaded the busses to get out of the drizzle.

It was a long and gloomy drive this morning to Louisiana, perfect for sleeping though!! The Carolina Girl enjoyed some music on Spotify and the bus got an interesting array of music including songs from the High School Musical Soundtrack, Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber. Also, on the bus we had a competition to see who could be the first one to know everyone’s first name!!! (on the bus that is) Miss Jenna Bright was the winner!! She absolutely nailed it, she didn’t even stutter!!! This is Jenna’s second individual competition win!!!  The bus also played Heads Up Charades to pass the time!!

We stopped at a rest stop once we got to Mississippi and learned all about it from Kirsten Tevepaugh. We spelled out Mississippi with our bodies!!!

Maddie Cabe, Alex Marsicovetere, Bennet Estes, Richard Fernandez, Taryn Jenkins, Mary Anna Chewning, Jessica Turney, Emma Parson, Logan Swain, Sarah Bass, Jenna Bright, Jordan Carlson.

After that, we drove and had a traveling lunch, which consisted of PB&J sandwiches, chips, and FRUIT SNACKS!!! We didn’t stop until we reached New Orleans! Some of our first impressions were comments on the stench of the city… it was stinky!  We parked and walked down to sit by the Mississippi River and heard five more presentations!

After the presentations we all walked over to Café Du Monde and had their world famous beignets!! BEN-YAYs, as we like to call them! Several of us ended up with powdered sugar all over ourselves including Felipe Moda who had some blown on him by Grant Deaton, of course!!

The infamous Bourbon Street!!
We then walked through St. Louis Cathedral and saw the amazing artwork painted on the ceiling and stained glass windows. After our walk through was complete we walked down and took pictures with the Bourbon Street sign and got to spend time shopping around the town. Many of us met some very interesting people including a woman dressed as a skeleton from Day of the Dead, palm readers, magicians, and plenty of other fun loving people.

Anderson Crowder trying to play off that he isn't having his picture taken!!

Jordyn Burrell and Ashlee Hamerik rode a petty cab with a hippie who took them around town. Many of us watched street magic by a friendly magician magic is real!!!! Jenna Tranthum, Jenna Bright, and Kristina Sellers got to see a boy tap dancing by the street. After relaxing and shopping for a little while, we loaded the busses back up and drove to our campsite this evening at Fontainebleau State Park, luckily we get to sleep inside tonight!! Air condition, no bugs, and no wake up call from nature!!

The cooks made spaghetti and garlic bread for dinner tonight which was very yummy! The garlic bread was a fan favorite and we all appreciated eating something that wasn’t a sandwich!! While the cooks were doing some solo shopping at Walmart to get dinner for the night and all of our traveling meals for our loooooong drive tomorrow, they ran into an old friend! Miss Diane! She happily checked them out in the self-checkout line all by herself, just so they wouldn’t have to wait in the long checkout lines! She said she remembered the trip from last year and wished us well on our journey!!!
Getting a sneak peak at our spaghetti dinner from Natalie Tillis!

Tonight we also had a team competition, which consisted of taking a campfire song, Dixieland Delight by Alabama, and making it our own, however we wanted. There was everything from a rap to a skit to a bedtime story! Everyone is very creative!! The Sneezy group won this challenge; they credit their win to Felipe!
