asleep on the job, but we promise we’ll do the best we can!!! We’ll be here
with you for the next 5 days to keep you updated on our California snoozing… I
mean dreaming…

So our night was pretty busy, as we drove to the Pacific
Ocean!! We woke up at 6am (well some of us did) at the Santa Monica Pier! The
bus was parked right in a parking lot beside the beach!!! We got out and took a
big whiff of the beach air, but we were surprised to feel the cold weather and
freezing cold water! Isn’t California supposed to be warm??

The brave ones got their suits on and jumped in anyways!!
They regretted it the second they got out of the water! Kristina Vaher, Callie
Matthews, Bailee Keller, and Katie Bowyer were all repping America by twinning
and wearing some beautiful patriotic suits!! Some of the wet kids got out and
realized that they didn’t have towels, and were forced to air dry…a very chilly
air-drying. Richard Fernandez, one of our many ladies’ mans, didn’t have to air
dry due to the large number of hugs he got from our girls.
At 8:30, our
wonderful cooks (the Bashfuls) made us eggs, bacon (regular and vegetarian),
watermelon, toast, and orange juice. The Bashfuls happened to cook on the wrong
side of the griddle so everyone’s eggs were a little black in color but they
were still delicious! Some of our guys decided to chug the leftover juices, but
realized half way down that it wasn’t the best idea. Our very own Tanner Hester
chugged over half a gallon, but then decided to let us see it come back up!!
HAHAHAH!

After we ate breakfast, the sunshine came out for some quick
visits on and off for the rest of the afternoon. Our dishwashers (the Happys)
were in need of a little extra help doing their chores, so they pulled a Forrest
Gump and RAN to Bubba Gump’s where they got some professional help from the
wonderful dishwashers there. Kacie Barrett, Abby Copeland, and Nick Richard
wanted to burn off their breakfast by taking a little dip in the ocean. But
when they ran into the waves, Nick hurt his foot pretty bad, and Kacie and Abby
had to flex their big muscles and pull him out. The counselors took good care
of him, and he’s doing much better. On the bright side, he might be able to
skip some of the lines tomorrow at Disney if he is in a wheelchair!
Some of us played sports in the sand, some of us just
relaxed and tanned, some of us went to the beautiful pier, some of us went to
the city, and then some of us just slept. I guess we’re starting to rub off on
them! While playing a game of football, some of our guys met a tourist who
could barely speak English, but they still managed to have a great time. And
some of our volleyball players met a teenager named Izzy who came all the way
from Florida, traveling with her friend for a vacation! While in the water,
Kirsten Tevepaugh and Blessid Snow tried to catch a wave, but the wave caught
Blessid instead. Kirsten hopped over like a pro, and Blessid face planted, but
recovered and still had fun splashing around!!!
Throughout the day when we were in the city, some of us
found our way to the Apple store (Are you surprised?), and made some FaceTime
calls home. There was also a kind man named Lionel, who let some of us make
phone calls! Some of us also went to shops to get some new clothes that we
can’t fit in our duffel bags, and some souvenirs for when we come home. Felipe
Moda and Bennett Estes hit a music shop, and they both showed everyone their
musical skills while playing a bass guitar and a chair (as drums, of course).
Some of us made our way back to lunch, and were served a
delicious pizza wrap, cheese puffs, and a chocolate chip cookie. Others went to
places like Bubba Gump’s, Al Bright, Pier Burger, and Wahlburger. With full
tummies, the majority of us made our way back to the beach. Cameron Thomas
climbed a two-story rope all the way to the top at Muscle Beach!! WOW!
A group decided to rent Tandem bikes to get around the city,
just like the tons of bikers we had to dodge all day. Our wonderful counselors
Matt Wilfong and Jon Alliss rented a double Tandem bike and showed us all up.
It did wear them out though, because as soon as they got back, they took a
quick snooze. And you better believe we got pictures!

With pink noses, sandy toes, and sleepy eyes (we had to add
that in), we all boarded the buses and vans and headed out into the CRAZY
California traffic. Jon was driving Miss America and blessed our ears with
commercial jingles, while Eugene (Matt W.) showed us some of his favorite
country tunes in Carolina Girl. Mr. G was the real G.O.A.T. and let us get in
some well-needed SLEEP!! Coincidence since we’re the Sleepys???? After about an
hour and a half, we got to the Anaheim Disneyland RV Park, and are currently
squeezing into a plot of grass that the dwarves wouldn’t even fit into. While
we are waiting for the cooks to get back with some dinner to fill our growling
tummies, we are getting camp set up, and getting some showers for our nasty
selves. For dinner, we are having hotdogs, baked beans, and mac and cheese!!
Yummy!! We are SO excited to wake up in the morning and go to the happiest
place on earth: Disneyland! We promise we will remember to cover with
sunscreen, and yes we will remember to eat lunch. We love you, we miss you, and
we’ll talk to you tomorrow! It’s time for us to catch up on some sleep. Good
night, sweet dreams!
